i searched on this topic but could not find pics to compare.
i have a 95 3.2 obd1 that i'm trying to install a 3.5 hfm on. my m3 does not arrive for another week or so but i tried test fitting this onto my 93 325is. it seems the plug is slightly different from the outlet. not sure if i can do anything to make it work? direct solder? ghetto but if it works, it works right?
pics of my bosch 3.5 hfm 'outlet'. bosch p/n 0 280 217 809
i'm told the obd1 HFM's outlet is assymetrical in shape? this one is symetrical. i think i'm screwed. any input would be appreciated.

Look on the inside of the connector thats on your car now and match up the ridges on the HFM to the ridges on your cars connector ridge. Pop out the wires 1-4 and plug them into your exsisting HFM connector piece. I am assuming you have a '95 M3, I believe those had the same size connector as the 540/euro HFM.
If yours doesn't fit you can find another connector from a 540, or forget the connector and just crimp the wire into the matched up ridge on the HFM(extremley ghetto).
Then your gonna need a few more inches on those wires, so you can splice in some wire.
Hope this helps

hey, thanks for the insight. things look potentially ghetto-riffic. i'm glad i MAY not have to ditch this thing for a new hfm for $300-400
just worried that the sensor inside this hfm (for obdII?) may have different specs than what's needed for my application.

:lol thats funny, and there are threads floating around with part numbers for HFMs. I am pretty sure its 540/740 pre'96 and any Euro HFM that will work, but the threads have specifics.

FWIW, the ridge pattern on that HFM you have pictured ned, doesn't look like mine.
I did a writeup thread on here and I included a bunch of pics. I am on dialup now so I'm not gonna go searching, but its here.

i think i may have run across that thread when i was searching. do i have the mystery hfm from the land of gnomes and trolls? could this be a late model (i'm assuming 96 and after) v8 hfm? as stated above, i don't mind having to ghettofy in order to make it work, i just don't wanna fry anything because the tms software i'll be running doesn't like the sensor that's in this thing. i tried searching on google w/the bosch part # but came up w/nathan.

What's pictured in post #1 is a Porsche HFM. It is NOT the same as the BMW Euro/540 HFM. It has a different plug (as you've found out) AND electrically the transfer function is different.

dang, so there is absolutely no way to make it work on my 95 3.2 obd1? prob take costly custom software eh? what a burn, (pun intended)

Right......custom software would be required.

do you know if this is a 993 tt hfm? a bit overkill for the n/a setup i'd be running no? in your opinion do you think it best that i sell it to a f/i guy and buy the correct hfm for my needs or do you think aa's software will do the trick (albeit at a pretty penny). on another note, i hear aa is the only tuner that will tune the s52 obd1 3.5" hfm w/21.5 lb injectors? sorry for the questions, i'm just trying to find my way outta this pickle.

actually i think this is a 96/97 porsche turbo (3.6L) HFM. anyone running f/i that wants to trade for a regular euro/540 3.5 hfm?? this'll prob have to go on ebay :help
