i have a 1997 m3 sedan automatic. my obc is saying brake ligt failure and my brake lights aint working. the rear corner lights work , what could be the problem? what do i check for?

Replace the brake light switch. Common failure. It is under the dash, and contacts the brake pedal. Tim

Yep, I did mine recently, like $11 bucks from the dealer.
edit: I just saw that your brake lights are NOT working. Mine worked, just kept throwing the OBC message. It could still be the switch. Have you checked the fuse?

My left one is out but I think it's really out. Probably the bulb - Advance Auto? OBC lets me know everything, even the stuff that isn't wrong.

If your OBC displays "Brake Light Circuit Failure", then it is indeed your brake switch and here's a write-up about how you can remove/replace it:

You can buy a new one at the dealer for less than $30, or perhaps a bit cheaper from elsewhere.
