My ASC light is always on and was not before I tackled a valley pan leak. All of my throttle cable connectors were brittle and broke some combination of tabs when removing from throttle body. My first thought after researching this problem was that the wobbly cable from the ADS controller to the throttle body was the problem. I filmed the actuator when starting the car (with the original cable) and the cable moved about 1/4 inch and stopped. I disconnected it from the throttle body and hung it out the front of the car and had the same symptom. I tested power to the connector and I have 11 volts when the car is on/engine not running.
I opened the cable flap. The cable is correctly mounted inside the actuator and the cable moves freely through the sheathing when I manually move the gear of the ADS actuator. If I moved the gear 180 degrees, there is a reddish substance on the gears, which at first I thought was an internal gear shredding itself against this gear, but I don't see any obvious signs of wear on the gears themselves. Is this lubricant?
I've already ordered the replacement cable but I think the problem may be the actuator. I appreciate any insights on how this is supposed to work.
