I noticed on my new purchase..97 m3....the dipstick housing is not bolted in by top mount/bracket area.

is the housing secured down low simply by a "push in" fit?

thnx~

My '99 dipstick was bolted onto a bracket hanging off the bottom of the intake manifold, below the throttle.

Assuming you have an M50 manifold swap. There is no provision. I have a bracket that I designed to fix this but haven’t made it.

If you have an S52 manifold then just bolt the tube into place. The provision is there.

hey guys....

I wasnt clear. I know it can be bolted in up top ....my bolt is missing. I have 0e 97 intake mani

I wanted to know how it is fitted to the pan down low ?....is it just a press in fit?

It is press fit with an o-ring on my 95.

Yes, the dipstick tube is just a push-in at the bottom. May need a sharp tap with a mallet to persuade.

The correct oring requires the tube to be smacked into place. This is not a “may require” thing, it is required. If you try to just slide it in till it hand bottoms out, you will not have the correct depth or sealing.

You also need to be a little careful to make sure the O-ring goes in the hole and not ride up the tube. First time I tried it it leaked because the o-ring got pinched. I hate doing jobs twice...

The oring goes on the tube first, then insert it into the hole. Do not install the oring into the oil pan first.
