I have a '95 M3 with an Euro S50b32 swapped. Using a Foxwell scanner I'm getting the following codes, but cannot find out what they mean:
8a DTC -DME: DMS Digital Motor Electronic: fault stored
2a DTC -DME: DMS Digital Motor Electronic: fault stored
42 DTC -DME: DMS Digital Motor Electronic: fault stored
35 DTC -DME: DMS Digital Motor Electronic: fault stored

12 Instrument Cluster code 20 DTC Ignition Key Contact Operation not plausable

The car fires up and idles just fine, but during moderate acceleration I can hear a "wha, wha, wha" as the engine revs. I hope that understanding what those codes means, I can chase down what is causing that noise.
Thanks for your help!

S50B32 is an engine found in european spec cars, which usually have a 20pin round BMW connector in the engine bay. If your car has such a connector then get a cable and the software to read codes through that, it will give a more detailed code description.

I have the Schwaben by Foxwell BMW/MINI Scanner 14020SCH with the 20 pin adapter and those are the codes that showed up. I am struggling to find any resource or software to interpret what those codes mean.

If nobody can tell you what the codes mean and you can't find it using google, then I don't see another option besides trying INPA and hoping it can give you more information.
Also, INPA can provide more engine data and values that could help diagnose your problem.

I think you should use INPA, software is free in the z3 diagnostics forum. Get the cable off eBay or Amazon.

Google showed the following:

8a code was related to body control module

2a code was a speed sensor

42 and 35 were related to the dsc stability system.

Not sure how accurate these are, take it with a grain of salt.

Do you feel a hesitation during acceleration or is it just a noise? Was the vanos ever rebuilt?

Why not into the Euro specific sub?

The VANOS seals were replaced 10k miles ago. There is a slight hesitation during acceleration when that noise is present and then the noise disappears when holding a constant speed.
I appreciate everyone's comments and helps as I chase this issue down.

I have nothing to add but am curious what sort of mileage is on the engine.
