So is it just me or are these amazing value for what you get...especially a manual with the performance package. What am I missing here? I was considering a 2016 Cayman GTS but the 440i is half the price and looks on par for performance at 4.9 secs 0-60...but better comfort.

Two totally different cars, so you can’t really compare them. So it depends on what you want to get from your driving experience.
BMW generally gets the nod for a sporty car that can also serve well as a daily driver, and carry people or cargo. The ‘Ultimate Driving Machine’ marketing wasn’t JUST about driving.
The Cayman will be a more nimble, better handling car. Any day. But if you need to carry a third person, a child in a car seat, or bring home a large item from Ikea, the BMW will be a better choice.
