OK, so I am new at this. I have a 2002 525. Someone seems to have peeled the blue, black, and white roundel off of my hood. The metal parts are all still there. No damage done, except the decal/sticker is gone. Am I describing it correctly? What do I need to buy to fix it? Can you recommend a source?
I appreciate any help you can offer. I am all thumbs.
Thanks,
Phil Jones

Picture please? It sounds like you just need to remove the old roundel and install a new one.. a simple inexpensive repair. But we need to see what you're talking about to be sure.

51 14 8 132 375 is the part #
Absurdly expensive from the Bavarians, lots of perfectly good knock-offs posing as genuine for $10-$15.

If the metal/plastic backing plate is there still.. It didn't get stolen. It flew off.
It's a funny failure mode of the old smooth style roundels. Technical- The old roundels were plastic base + Adhesive + logo, after 20+ years the glue gets quite brittle

Lmao! Nailed it on the answer to the mystery!
Or got a bottle of blue and white touchup paint and paint them yourself lol...
Just put masking tape in between the jobs...

Yes, it makes sense that it flew off. There was a small piece still present.
Thanks for the tip.

+ 2 on the number of labels that have flown off while driving. Get yourself a plastic packing strap, pull up the metal and reinstall a new one. Note get the new plastic inserts for the little pins on the back of the logo. This will allow another 20 years of driving life.

In answer to the question of what kind of condition my 2002 525i is in, it is in nearly perfect condition. Twenty years old, only 99,700 miles on it. I am the original owner, and I have tried to maintain it as if new. Actually, it is a 525iT. I special ordered it without any options whatsoever, and I de-optioned the sunroof in order to maximize the head room. I even ordered it with a manual transmission. The salesman replied, “We are going to have to special order that car, because there isn’t any car like it anywhere in the country.” I recently paid $2500 to have some minor scratches and dents removed after a hit and run incident. The guy at the body shop said, “You must really love that car a lot.” I replied, “Yes.”

Glad to hear that, but if you took care of the car, love it so much, how’d the roundel get so bad that the clear layer flew off? Just a stupid observation, I’m an oddball like that, not trying to piss you off or anything. So, tonight is your lucky day, if you feel like, PM me your address, I have a hood roundel for you, free of charge.

Take him up on the offer.
By the way mine few off after a wash. I know that is weekly but it happened that way. Hell the colored film is only glued on there

Post pix!!!
There's a guy who brings his E39 into the shop for routine service. He has the cleanest E39 I've ever seen. It's a 330i/5, pretty rare in these parts. He loves it and will probably be buried in it. So, post pix. We love super-clean E39s.
