I did a search and read through all 9 pages of the “official gauge cluster swap” thread and still have a few questions

#1) what’s the part number for the US 1995 OBD1 M3 gauge cluster?

#2) can I swap in a euro UK OBD 1 1994 M3 gauge cluster into my US 1995 OBD1 M3 ? I don’t care if mpg/oil temp doesn’t work. Will everything else be plug and play? UK gauges are also in MPH so I feel like it might be the best option but needed confirmation.

I can also potentially get my hands on a 1998 OBD2 US M3 Gauge cluster for a swap w/ similar miles to my car. Is that a better option?

Which of these would be “easiest”

#3) does mileage on the donor cluster matter? Or is there a way to get it flashed to the actual mileage on my car? Can the dealer do it or does this require going to a specialist? Is there a confirmed specialist that can correct the mileage without too much trouble?

#4) I can get a cluster with similar mileage to my car to avoid any odometer reprogramming, so if I go OBD1 to OBD1 am I good to go? I feel like getting the correct mileage to display causes the most problems and if you just get a donor cluster with similar miles, it makes things easier.

Looking for the easiest, plug and play option.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help.

Part numbers from www.realoem.com
Use the last seven characters of the VIN to determine part numbers

62112263369 AT-Instrument cluster, uncoded (From: 05/01/1994)

Supersedes: 62112261653 (09/01/1993 - 04/31/1994)

A replacement cluster will need to be aligned to match the current mileage, find a local ‘coder’ near you to accomplish that. The Dealer will charge a bunch and It is hard to say if they have a technician that is old enough to know how to do it.
There is a light in the cluster that will illuminate to indicate mismatched mileage.
As I recall later clusters have a removable ‘chip’ that can be swapped.

Dealers cannot program mileage. For coding plug clusters; they can only swap used coding plugs into virgin 0 mile clusters and sync. For non-coding plug clusters they can only start you off at 0 miles.

I can program any cluster you get (mileage and VIN). You can use whatever version cluster you want going this route.

Does AT refer to the transmission (automatic vs manual? Same part number?

I’m actually not even sure If early S50 M3s came in an automatic.

The only Coupe E36 M3 to come in Automatic was 95 model year. All 96-99 M3 Coupe are manual.

So does the part number above with the “AT” correspond to the automatic gauge cluster or manual gauge cluster?

There is no automatic or manual gauge cluster. They are coded (note that coding is not the same as the programming talked about above) with dealer software to whatever options are applicable.
