Okay, so I was looking over some records from my car's previous owner and saw that the water pump was replaced by a dealer in 2000. I looked at the part number they used and it's 11-51-1-433-828 and not 11-51-7-527-799 that's usually refferred to here and on sale at places like pelicanparts.com. This is the part number mentioned at http://www.logun.org/waterpmp.htm but i haven't seen it anywhere else besides one post on bf.c which was just a copy of the logun page. Does anyone know if these are the same thing? I just hope that mine is the upgraded one that shouldn't break prematurely. thanks

Replaced my WP yesterday with the newest BMW variant purchased from the dealer, has the composite impeller. P/N is 11-51-7-527-799.

This is the correct one if you want the comp impeller.

hmmm, well i know that the 11-51-7-527-799 one is the newest one. I would like to know more about the 11-51-1-433-828 without taking the thing out if that is possible. just stuff like metal or plastic impeller, etc. Do you guys know what the p/n of the crappy one is? I think that would be helpful. thanks

The nice thing about the WP design is the weep hole. It'll let you know if the bearing has worn by dripping coolant. It will also be noisy too but it's hard to tell if it's the wp or a belt tensioner (mine latest 20k being noisy and dripping, slowly at first). The old plastic impellers will fail without warnign. I'd say your fine, but hopefully someone will reply with more info about your p/n. FWIW, I replaced the metal impeller that came from the factory which was structurally sound - it was the bearing that failed at 58k.

thanks. the wp on my car was replaced mid 2000, so it's about 4 1/2 yrs old and about 60,000 miles old. must not be the crappy one but it's weird that I can't find any info on it. entered the number in the search thing at pelican parts and it's like some special order part or something....and that's all the info it gave; didn't even say it was a WP. oh well

BMW was building pumps with welded stainless impellers in 2000, the composite pumps came out in '01 or '02. The orange plastic ones went away for good in '97, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
