Did a search but couldn't find this one.

I've seen a couple of cars on youtube and on here with a carbon fiber intake chamber and wondered what the verdict is on them? Are these any good or are they mainly for looks/sounds? Does a vendor sell something like this?

Well if you had a Euro S50b32 or a S54 engine then yes, they are useful. For our S50b30US or S50B32US engines, no, since our engines have a common intake manifold, and not individual throttle bodies.

They actually make kits these days so you can run the s54 individual throttle bodies, so it’s possible to run those intake manifolds on m50 based engines.

Oh, they’ve made ,or at least offered those for years. Not really sure what you get from it either.. Just looked and there is a used kit on eBay for $2600…. Either way, that won’t work on a S50x us..

There’s a forum member who’s making the kits I’m thinking about. I believe there are some decent dyno #’s floating around with them.

By the time you spend the kind of money that ITB kits cost, you’re a decent fraction of the way to an S54 swap.

The ebay link is Euro S50 motors and if you're in the US, won't work on your motor. The vid link is to a guys car that is swapped with an S54, thus it has ITB's from the factory.

RHD has historically been the go to for ITB kits on BMW motors.

GG//M3 is right is correct and he is active on the FB groups as well. https://rabidracingdev.com/

Initial cost isn't that much but imo that kit would go in conjunction with supporting mods, exhaust, head work etc. Depending on your skill set the cost could go towards S54 or keeping US S50/2 and building it.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I didn't know that it's for itb's.
Looks really nice in the engine though!

The only time I've ever heard anything good about the RHD kits is in the for sale ads after someone has removed it from their cars. ITBs get the likes, but there's far better ways to make an s52 make power, and if you want to go beyond that and stay NA s54 swap is the route to take.

I was thinking the RRD website was what everyone was talking about (and thought those that posted "RHD" simply made an error in typing). With a little more searching, I came across the RHD website. They are different companies. RHD makes a complete itb kit for the S50, while RRD makes an adapter kit to run the oem S54 itb on the S50 engine. Different approaches but both ending with similar setups.

Then I came across this thread (didn't do much more searching than this):

And this video:

Thanks for all the knowledge guys!

They're very problematic no matter the route you take. The RHD kit requires constant tinkering and adjustment for marginal gains while sacrificing drivability (cold start and cold weather behavior). The Euro route is far from d simple as just bolting on an adapter plate and requires a fair amount of customizing and extra S54 part swapping.

It seems cool on the surface, but you give up far more than you get. And no one who undertakes it hangs around to report on the experience long term or provide reliable before / after measurements. It's not Shangri-la - it's just a siren song or a complete mirage.
