So i picked up a set of 17" mk-1's, 17x8.5 front and 17x9 in back, but they had a tiny bit of curbage and a little clearcoat peeling. So, i decided to paint them black :evil2 I think they turned out pretty nice; Here is the process i went through: (also) this is my first time posting pix on this forum so i hope it works.

The paint etc...:

Damn that's sick. Those are some of my favorite wheels.

I wonder how the paint will hold up though. How long did you wait in between each coat. If you didn't give it a lot of time, 20 coats of paint can be really soft.

It looks really good! Make sure you post pics once the wheels are on,

Nice...

Same thing I did. You might have wasted your time though...I have heard that some places WON'T do the lip if you already have the centers done. Maybe places around around you are different though.

Anyways, looks great man!! Good work

I painted mine about 6 months ago, and they still only have 2 or 3 minor chips on them!!

20 coats of paint... :eek Thats a bit much. 4-5 would have been best.

I did the same thing to my track wheels (in gunmetal) and they have held up fine.

I waited 15 minutes between coats(there is actually 25 coats not 20, we used the entire long can for each wheel)... and i waited about 3 days before i touched the wheels, they really do take a long time to dry, as for the chipping, thats why i bought that clearcoat enamel, but it just made it look grainy and cloudy so i decided not to use it. well see; if they start to chip then I will get them sanddblasted and powdercoated someplace i just wanted to see how they would turn out if i did them the cheaper way first; didnt loose much accept $55 on paint/accesories and 3 hard days of sanding and inhaling paint fumes wit ma buddy lol. :stickoutt as for the lip polishing, i guess i will just take my sweet time and do it myself with a polishing disk and my good ol trusty dremel.

haha seriously, if you really need to make a comment then just PM the OP, no point in bringing old threads up just "oh that looks good".
