So I have two pairs of euro headlights (ellipsid and later h7s) that came with the level adjustment motors attached.

BMW Headlight Level Adjustment Motor - Genuine BMW 67168352206 | FCP Euro (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-headlight-adjusting-motor-67168352206?ads_cmpid=1586640911&ads_adid=59893888775&ads_matchtype=&ads_network=g&ads_creative=298302526031&utm_term=&ads_targetid=aud-1020666087835:pla-327620319311&utm_campaign=&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&ttv=2&gclid=CjwKCAjwmK6IBhBqEiwAocMc8qQd4KNyRF1TUl6xp0UB 8gt6S6d5GBGU1OJQi_YOWa7gpHz52S8vRBoCe6QQAvD_BwE)

Obviously its not worth retrofitting the entire levelling motor functions so I wanted to remove the motors off the headlights and cap the socket.

Question for those are:

1) does removing the motor impact the adjustability of the headlights? ie if I pulled it off does that mean my alignment is off
2) depo versions of these headlights don't come with the motor but instead a cap, does anyone know where to get one?

1) yes of course it does. It allows the whole internal assembly to flop around.
2) Depo are a replica of ZKW. Neither of these have anything compatible with Bosch except for the rear electrical connector.

You need one of these for each light to convert from leveling motors to static rods: 63121387489

These details can be found on RealOEM. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BG92-EUR-11-1998-E36-BMW-M3&diagId=63_0273

thank you sir. any input on where to purchase 63121387489? it looks like ebay has an oem set and ships from athens greece.

alternatively, if the static rods are hard to acquire, does it hurt to just leave the leveling motors in tact?

You can leave the motors mounted as well, they will prevent the flop.

Indeed. Although it saves some weight.

Or of course, retrofit the level option. All you need the Switch and some fairly easy wiring/connectors.

I just realized I could separate the stem from the motors thereby making them static.

No, as there is no way to hold the opposite end in the case or seal the hole.

Something has to hold the internal reflector, motor or static rod.
