This question has been asked many times but there is no definitive answer. I searched the forums for hours.
Is there a color code spec for the base color that is in the engine bay, trunk, etc… the first base coat?
My car is Cosmos black, the engine bay and trunk etc is not cosmos black.. it’s not metallic.. I assume it’s an initial base coat. I would like to find the color code for this so I can match the paint.
Here’s the sticker in the engine bay. There’s a few codes here. Are any of these the code for the base coat?

Just curious, how would that color code spec help? Since you can't buy it anywhere you'll have to get it mixed by a paint shop anyway, and at least the one i use is able to mix any color from a painted sample without any color codes. They have color detecting devices and such.

Yes there is a definitive answer, I have touched on it before. There are books that are dedicated to under hood colors for BMW.
Here is yours for Cosmos.

These colors are NOT simply the base coat without clear. They are a single stage base + clear mix, otherwise they would have zero durability. Some are their own color and some are just the car color base mixed with clear. Cosmos is one that has it's own under hood color.
M5 related, but a great post, especially in a thread with so much bullshit information before he stepped in.

The answer is on the label, below the main color: Schwarz.
PS or are we talking about different things? Base vs primer?

We’re talking about a different color. The engine bay color is not represented by the body color sticker.

Thing is Technoviolet cars have Black (Schwarz) listed on the paintlabel and Techno has black as the engine bay color.
Black is the primer color for Techno.

Not all have black engine bays. That is typical of late model. The 96 I have here now has a matched engine bay and the label states 299/4. I can’t find a list with low digit color codes (4 and 9 as an example) right now.
