I have a Land Rover branded CD43 in my car that has been locked out for a few years. I happened to be at the BMW dealership for my other BMW and figured I'd ask them for the code, even though it's LR branded. The service rep put in the serial # and said it was odd that it gave back the same code (5 digit) for multiple manufacturers (Blaupunkt, Alpine, etc).
Anyway, the code she pulled up doesn't work. I have confirmed the radio is in USA Region Mode. Do I need to go to a LR dealership?

Use a website to pull the serial. There are known false codes that the dealer gives out. The sites that you pay $5 or so for a code are more accurate.

Thanks, I'll try that.
Some posts online say the SN shown on the LCD is not the one I need, and that I need the one physically written on the radio. Any truth to that?

No truth to that whatsoever.

That's the same serial. LCD, the sticker on the side or whereever it sits and stamped into the radio's housing as well.
US has a 5-digit code, EU 4-digit. Or I have see radio passes with either 4 or 5 digits. I wonder if this changes according the region setting on the CD43.
But as mentioned, for a few bucks uses one of these services.

For posterity's sake:
Messaged a few eBay code sellers and they said they needed the "full serial", and that the one from the LCD wasn't enough. So once I realized there was no "special radio tool" required (which if you search, a lot of threads claim you need a special tool), and it was just a torx, I removed the radio to get the serial and luckily the code was written on top.
For anyone reading this in the future dealing with un-educated eBay code sellers, just put BPO263 in front of the serial you get from the LCD and that is the "full serial".

Good thing the code was written on top, it saved you $5!
