Hi, I’m looking for advice on the best next step in figuring out why I’m getting vibrations and a mild shimmy in my steering wheel. It’s like I’m feeling every small bump or imperfection on even smooth roads over 40 mph. I hit a bad pothole several months ago and since then have had alignment done, all four wheels straightened and put on a new set of tires (non run flats thinking they’d smooth out the ride). I hate to keep throwing money at the mechanic without a clue as to the diagnosis. Is there a number 1 likely cause? One remaining theory is a bent control arm. Lastly, I notice the issue more when the top is down. Many thanks for your thoughts. Mark

Thrust arm bushings are oil filled and they leak eventually. You are looking at front end suspension work

Thanks. I’ve had the car visually inspected by several technicians who have said they don’t see any oil or signs of damaged bushings etc. How difficult is it to diagnose? Do you have to disassemble anything?

Could also be a bent wheel

Thanks. Had all the wheels straightened. I’ll look at thrust arm etc. and see what we find.

If the wheels were so damaged that staightening was even a thing, they'll never balance out.

Right. I wonder if relative4 is a computer program/troll. Look at post history to see many... many... such posts
