Here is a new wheel. Not sure if this is what you meant by LTW Motorsport wheel as it means different things to different people. So this is my interpretation. Maybe you meant Style 24 polished?

These are the best i can do for you bud, i no longer have this set, but they were so clean!
i don't think there was really any painted sections...
if i was going to refinish a set of these i'd look at doing a ceramic polish and then full clear coat.

thnx to both of u!!!!..
u both have shown pics of the only 2 styles avail ..one is fully painted....I own the same set....
the other is machined and also I think painted as well. Hard to describe, but the "poached egg tray " area appears painted...and if not painted, then it was frosted?

i'm going to assume you mean the centre?
that's the same finish and texture colour etc as the spokes themselves.
the only section that is different, from memory, is the inner triangle sections as shown in the picture, but i believe that's just a non-machined section...
it'll definitely be different to the painted LTW's if you're intending to refinish them to be polished...
but i'll cycle back to my recommendation of ceramic polishing them...
should smooth everything over enough and even get in the nooks and crannys of the writing...

yes..the triangular sections are not machined.. but are they painted?...they seem to be silver. And yes they are not machined

They are not painted in the centers. It’s raw aluminum from the forging process. You can replicate it by blasting the entire wheel with a fine 300 grit glass media. Wet blast with the same media after. Leave the raw finish and just clear coat everything after a dull machine polish on the lip and face.
Do not paint the centers or high polish the lip/face. It looks so bad.

Um.
Yes.
I think it would be best if you just went out and bought a single polished version from your dealer. Then whoever you work with on having your stamped set has an exact, original and new, wheel to get the job done right. I foresee you coming back in a few months with mirror polished faces/lips and gun metal painted spoke centers without a physical representation to hand over.
It should also be noted that the CNC cut face and lip is dulled by hand with a scotch pad. You can see the aimless hand made scratches in Jim's new wheel pics above... this is how a proper new set is. Again, this is where an original wheel would reveal all the secrets to achieving an original look.

great great pics...thnx guys...
but to think Ill come back w/ mirror polishing and gun metal paint is a huge unfair stretch/judgement...lol...very funny.
But Im a grown man in the game for over 40 yrs.....I am not about to pimp out oe ltw forged wheels. I may be a lil creative but Ill be true to the history of the wheel. Keep in mind I am not restoring a $150k oe ltw car to be a concours correct 100 point car.........
buy a new wheel at a dealer?......how much 500-700 clams?...no thanx...
ever see a 911 frosted rsr wheel?... I may utilize that finish for the triangle centers, and utilize a machined finish else where......then a clear coat.....maybe even tinted!
exact to oe ..?...no...but very iconic , classic, recognizable and respectful

Just so you know, there are three versions of Style 24.
Stamped w/Paint (93-95)
Stamped and Polished (95 M3 GT only)
Polished (96-99)
All three are made by Fuchs and all three are forged. There’s nothing specific about your wheels being tied to the Lightweight. They were a standard option for E36 until 95. Only the M3 GT wheels are truly special (and NLA). What you are trying to do is what BMW offered on the GT wheel.
Jim E has a brand new set of GT wheels that he can post pics of.
My comment about the high polish and gunmetal was not directed at you. It was directed to these wheel restoration places that constantly screw up the polished version of these wheels. The last thread on this topic had several examples of fails. Basically, don’t let these guys have free reign over your restoration.

I would like to see the GT wheels.
.I never knew there were three versions...nor did I know they were made by Fuchs
there will be no free reign....
thank u............... thank u very much
all brg in color.....interesting....I have never seen one fs......ever. Can u show me the link of the thread u mention

Cosmetically that's about the only difference though I never set mine down side by side with my standard "M" logo polished ones. There are minor weight variations between the wheels but that's just a technicality.
The GT wheel however is very very rare especially in the U.S. Back in the day many people here in the U.S. didn't know these existed. They weren't easy to find in the parts catalog unless you knew to look for the specific time of production for the 95 model GT. In the 2000's BMW blocked them from coming here to the U.S. For some reason they eventually were allowed in and then soon after they were discontinued. Like all things automotive, it's all about rarity even for simple things like rims. Go figure.

thanx so very much....
I always enjoy talking w/ fellow car guys that truly know the facts...most dont. I dabble in the early 911 world as well, and rarity takes on a whole new meaning there...lol
for my painted stamped set I want to do a nice almost correct finish..lol..,but Im not going for a perfect correct oe finish..
now having learned they were made by Fuchs, I may play w/ fuchs history and consider an rsr frosted finish for the non machined triangles ...and then machining as well on lips and faces...and clear coat of course...combine them all

So, other than one wheel being ‘polished’ and also not having the Motorsport lettering on it, are the wheels otherwise the same? Also, I noticed that the ones designated as ‘forged’ are available in 7.5 and 8.5 width, while the polished wheels are only available as 7.5.

That is incorrect. That single 7.5" polished part number (85329409851) is some spare, snow, or whatever wheel (edit; It's a kit for the polished wheel that includes the center cap and bolts). You overlooked the other two part numbers listed for polished. They absolutely come in 7.5" and 8.5".
All of them are the same.
All of them are forged.
Any weight savings on the stamped are from the metal removed for the BMW Motorsport lettering.

The short answer is they never made that and frankly it would not make a lot of sense to do that. "///M" does NOT equal "BMW Motorsport." Funny how some people still mix up the two. ///M is the umbrella brand that is the "retail" and marketing side of things. BMW Motorsport is a sub-part of BMW M that is mainly racing and racing development.

I recently had my LTWs refinished. Decided to go with painted centres and a polished lip. The set is staggered - 7.5 in the front and 8.5 in the rearhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210609/e976481523fd163b4b86c682598e3f16.jpg

Because it has "Motorsport" stamped into it. No need to add another "M" to that. It's the earlier style wheel. If you're lucky enough to have the original version of the M strutbrace, that one also doesn't have the M logo as on the later ones, but Motorsport written on it in the same font as the stamped 24's.
