If all goes well, I'll have a 98 540/6 by next week, and I want to start modding right away. My question is, is it worth it to go Dinan? And where is the best place to start?
I'm going to hold off on rims this year, because I'm just going to need to get snow tires anyways. So far I know I'm getting clear corners. I'd like to get the Dinan CAI, and possibly the exhaust. Anyone have reccomendations on things that should deffinetly be changed on a 98 to get the most out of it? My ultimate goal is 350ish HP, but I'm going to go as the money allows. Best bang for buck?

best bang for the buck will probably be new gearing and driving school. the gearing will give you the biggest kick in the pants for the money and the driving school will teach you how to use it correctly.
i have bought zero dinan products. they are overpriced for my liking. other companies out there offer the same produt at a much better price. i hope you are talking 350 crank hp because if you're not you will have to throw on a blower.

At $11578.00 it's a bit pricey. Who do you reccomend Skipper, and where can I find these things online?

too many to list. do some searches for CAI...Exhaust...software...that will get you an idea of whats out there. if i drove a 540 i would give you my general recommendations. however if you ask a specific question i may check things out to satisfy my own curiosity while helping you out. have fun.

My 540 has the Dinan CAI, exhaust, downloads for engine and tranny, rear diff and some other stuff. I never paid for it as it was already on the car when I bought it. I believe the $$$ for the Dinan stuff was @ $10k including installation. I'm happy with it, but am quite sure the same effect could have been done for much less. I do believe in Dinan products as I also have them on my 750il and 525iT.

On a more specific note, it seems the Dinan exhaust is single. Does anyone sell a good dual exhaust for the 540i similar to the M5 exhaust with the 4 pipes?

Is that a decent price?
I also found: http://www.beastpower.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?page=BMI/PROD/eisenmann/ES-BE39-540-EX-4-R-83
Pricey, but someone a while back posted their Eisenmann and it sounded amazing.

You are on the East Coast, you get great fuel octanes here, why go with a tuner that tunes on piss water?

The Dinan exhaust for the M-technic rear bumper is single, but the exhaust for the standard non-M bumper is still a dual tip exhaust.

i have the dinan engine download, tranny download, exaust, and CAI, plus the factory 3.15 differential that came with sport models, on my 540i, and i can feel every bit of its 320 horses throughout the powerband. my opinion is that it was all well worth it.
