I have INPA for my 98 M Roadster. It was fairly easy to download and use. Now my wife has a 2006 330i. I've googled INPA for it, and get all kinds of complicated info. Is it really super complicated, or am I just an idiot? Anybody got instructions for a barely literate computer user like me? I have both Windows 7 & 10 available.

The same INPA you use for your Roadster will work for the E-9x cars up to 2008, just make sure you have a switch for #7 & #8. The older cars need pins 7 & 8 to be connected, while the newer cars do not.

I will check this out. If you have given me such an easy answer, I will be eternally grateful.

the INPA that I had for the 98 M Roadster worked for my 2006 330i ! The OBD II cable plugged into the car OMD II port without any adapter. That dreaded Zk10 error appeared, but by blind luck, I cleared it. ( I did go to the battery and wiggle some wires, but I have no idea whether that helped.) When I started, the airbag light, the seatbelt light, and the check engine light were all on. Now, all lights are off. ( I never figured out that "switch for #7 & #8" business. Maybe that would have been better, or given me more capabilities?? Several times I got messages like "not found", or "doesn't match. There may be an error" , but I just pressed on. )
Again, thanks for the lead..........

So what I mean by the switch 7 & 8 is if those two are bridged, you will get odd stuff happening like not being able to talk to modules. I would first start with pulling from the CAS, or also known as a quick scan. Or you could just find a cable that has the switch in it like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Taotao-FT232RQ-Interface-Ediabas-Diagnostic/dp/B07L498NGZ/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=inpa+cable&qid=1618854651&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExTzhCUFVPVkVRTUNNJ mVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODI2NjE0MkFRVFVIUklYNk5HNCZlbmN yeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODcyMDI0UlNIVVI1RUE5SUtYJndpZGdld E5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm9 0TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

I got the lights out for now, but I guess I should get that cable for the future.

I spoke too soon. I started the car a few times, lights stayed out. But, when I drove it today, lights came back on. So, I reset it, but the cause is still there. I"ll wait for that cable before tackling it again.

Which lights are coming on and what codes are you getting?

The check engine light has stayed out, good. The seatbelt and airbag lights are the ones that I cleared, but then they came back on. I was unable to read codes, but hopefully will with the right cable. I guess I'll get it in the next week or so.

I purchased the cable with the 7-8 switch, but it makes no difference which setting I use. It says I'm using an "antiquated ediabias file", or it gives a " IFH-18" error code, no matter which position the switch is in. I DID NOT get these error codes before. The cable came with a disc, but it seems to have older version than what I have on the computer now (5.0). So, for now , I'm stuck. I'll do some more reading I guess. If anyone has ideas, please tell me.......... thanks........

THREADJACK IN PROGRESS
I have PASoft (BMW Scanner 1.4) and the module where I put the jumper in for Pins 7 & 8. If I replace the jumper with a switch, can I use PASoft to look into the inner workings of my '08 E93?

Fixed. Airbag / seatbelt lights out. The problem was in the computer knowing which port the INPA cable was in. With most devices, like a mouse or headsets, it doesn't matter, but with INPA it does.

Another note, I had a similar situation, I had INPA working on my Z3M but on the 2007 328i, I kept kept getting “error #20” from INPA and the communication would stop. A quick google search showed that you need to change the latency on the COM port from 16msec down to 1msec and the “error 20” went away and I can read more modules now. K+DCAN cable, no switches.
