My upper oil pan gasket failed after I was trying to replace my rear main seal while doing my 6 speed swap, is it safe to drop the subframe if the engine is supported while the transmission is out of the car or would I have to mount the transmission before dropping the subframe? I would really rather not mount the transmission just to un mount it again but if thats what needs to happen thats what needs to happen.

Yes, you can drop the subframe with the engine supported without the tranny attached to the engine.

After you remove the subframe bolts the back of the SF will hang down. You’ll have to hold the back up to take the weight off the front alignment pins in the front (bolt #2) so you can get the front down. Check to make sure you have a socket that will fit up inside the tube to get the bolts out.

Why not just yank the engine out? You won't be working overhead with tired arms trying to keep the oil drips out of your work and eyes and will also have an opportunity to service all the other PITA gaskets, seals and whatever else.

Maybe no engine hoist.

Maybe no engine hoist.
Perhaps but I'd think anyone having the cradle would. Chinese cherry pickers are so cheap these days, Less than the cradle even?

I am working with limited space and time, I have the crane to drop everything as well as a lift but I really didnt even want to mess with dropping the entire drive train, that being said, everything should be getting patched back up tomorrow
