Actually I believe it comes down to the ECU programming. Bolting in the hardware is a minor issue when it comes to getting the motor to run properly afterwards.

Which installer does the ECU mapping better?

The current Rotrex is maxed out on the E36 M3 at 6800 RPM (approx. 8.5psi) while the Vortech can hit much higher boost. Although AA is currently working on another "Stage II" offering... which should be better.

So in that respect, I'd say it all depends... if you think you won't want to do a boost bump for more power (ever) then Rotrex maybe for you (at least the current offering) if you plan on doing more in the future, then Vortech is the better choice.

If you just compare one against the other at 8psi, then it's pretty subjective, although I'll say this much: the AA kit comes with an Intercooler, and although it's not the best flowing, it certainly provides for a lot more runs, abuse, etc without heatsoak as you'd incur with a Vortech (Stage I from Dinan, RMS,others??) without having some sort of cooling (at least water injection).

That's about all I can say from a hardware standpoint... do some more searching and learn as much as you can.

Good luck,

Boris
