Anyone have a pin out for the SOS button?
I mainly just want it to light up.
The one I am working with has 4 wires and just one button.
It has an amber light that is visible with the cover closed.

Wow that took forever to find. They've hidden it very well under "Mayday switch":

Thanks for the generous helping of snark. But as I said this button had 4 wires the diagram you sent shows 5.
I disassembled the switch and it looks I just need to ground the brown wire and tie lead 1 and 2, as I numbered them, together and run that to lighting power such as the line going to the garage opener.

What is an "SOS button?"

Must be like the GM On Star button to call for assistance.

Wow, that's a very rude response to someone that spent his own time trying to help you. You won't get much more help with an attitude like that. It's not like you're paying for help - guys are spending their free time trying to help others and when you make remarks like that it's, well, downright disrespectful. You could always go find the information yourself or take it to a shop and pay someone.

Like Jim said, it's for emergency use. Gotta be connected to a cell phone, though. Funny, though, this is the first I heard of these cars having that. I have that in my '08 Merc, but it's not connected. It's just a pretty, red button that people say "hey, what is that for?" :)

Lemme guess, those that find the need for an SOS button probably are quick to hit the report button too..... You people know how I feel about report button pushers....

I wasn't being snarky, i genuinely could not find it because i searched for SOS and not "Mayday".

Ok, I apologize I thought you were being sarcastic. I had done a search for it and come up dry.
Lots of times people on boards like to demean people that ask questions out of a sense of superiority.

Read my response to Jaap in the post above.

What's rude are responses that are far too common on message boards that tell someone asking a question that either they should just use the search function, which sucks by the way, or "that has been discussed many times" or tells them how easy it was for the respondent to find the answer. That is what I assumed he was doing.
Not everyone has read every thread, has been around E39s for a long time, or knows everything about E39s or BMWs in general.
I for one will answer questions I can or try and add value to the conversation. I would not demean anyone for asking a question, even one that I thought the answer was "easy" or that "they should know".

I don't disagree with anything you said there. Your "they should know" premise... yes, absolutely. Afterall, we all started "somewhere" in our knowledge of these vehicles. Heck, at one point, I didn't know that 2+2=4. I don't mind telling someone to search - it's a good tool to learn to use - but I'll offer some help and guidance as well.

My only constructive advice I would offer is to not assume - we only have words to convey our thoughts so sometimes our current frame of mind can affect how we read someone else's response. Case in point... when I read Jaaap's first response, I read it as doing his best to try and be helpful. And, just to be clear, I'm not intending to "come down on you" here or single you out - it can happen to anyone.

Back on point... it's strange that the button and the control board is there, but not wired. Do you see any evidence of it being messed wtih? Meaning, maybe a previous owner purposefully DIDN'T want to see the light since it was a non-functioning item? Obviously it's not fair to compare Merc to BMW, but the SOS light in my Merc is lit up, even though pushing it does nothing. I think I'd rather have a cover that says "Eject"... at least that would be fun!

Where is the SOS button in an E39, I recall an ‘emergency’ option in the OBC but not a physical button in my facelift car.

I pulled the "Mayday" button from another BMW, don't remember what it was possibly a X3. I just thought it was cool and wanted to add it.

Just an FYI...I posted a diagram that on the other forum (Bimfest)...and interestingly, my response was similar to JAAPS. I kept searching for SOS, Emergency call button, etc...then someone made a post and called it a MAYDAY switch. I then used that term and found the diagram. But again, I sort of said the same thing but it wasn’t intended to be snarky, but to add to the conversation the correct word to search to look for the pin out illustration.

I ended up with an SOS/Service Call button, along with an OEM microphone, when I was looking for a Homelink module and panel some time ago. I found pigtails for both tucked up behind the headliner. SOS button lights up and doesn't do much more than look pretty, and I'm still trying to figure out a way to use the OEM mic with the Dynavin. Mainly I don't want to run the microphone wire all the way up there.
