Hi,

I have an E39 with DSP (actually an Alpina B10V8S UK-spec, 2003 model) which has an annoying problem in that sometimes I get a hiss through the front left tweeter. Sometimes there is no hiss, and other times there is. The hiss doesn't get louder or quieter if I adjust the volume, indeed even at zero volume I can hear it just the same. I also get occasional popping noises from it. I've not been able to determine why this happens at some times and not others - it can be hissing for an hour and then the next time I drive somewhere there's no hiss.

Has anyone ever had this on a DSP car?

I've solved the problem for now by disconnected that tweeter - the other speaker(s) in that door are fine, and there is no issue from the other door. But I'd like to reconnect it as the sound is (obviously) better with the tweeter connected!

Possibly related is that the car came with a phone kit built into the centrla armrest. I removed the phone and I think I have disconnected and removed everything related to it in the boot, but possibly this is relevant?

Many thanks,
Ben.

One of the amps capacitors on that particular channel is going. Normal for this age. But you could at least check your wiring, disconnect the harness, clean the contacts with electronic cleaner, never know, that might fix it.

Thanks I'll give that a try. And look up second hand amps on eBay..!

Second hand amps, man, at this age, all the caps are all crapping out, if they’re not bad, they soon will be. Gut it all out, install an aftermarket system and really enjoy good sound, not the horrible German audio that came with these cars.
