I am taking apart my engine and took off my vanos and then turned the crankshaft before realizing the repair manual said not to turn the crank without the vanos. Does anyone know if anything will happen because I made that mistake? Is there a way to fix the timing if necessary?

Will the vanos go back on without force it shouldn't matter? You may need to turn the crank shaft bolt a revolution if not. Im sure someone will chime in.

If the crank isn’t set correct the valves could hit the pistons, depends on how much you turned the crank.
You’d be better off to retime the engine.

Lol, digging into an engine when you have no clue what you are doing, not smart. You should know your limitations, do some research before tackling things, willynilly.

yes. turning the crank when the vanos is removed will move the helix vanos cups in/ out and you will lose your engine's proper timing.

How far "apart" were you planning to take your engine anyway? Maybe you needed to re-time it anyway.

Watch 50's kid video on timing the M54 vanos. It is the best.
