Strangely, couple of days ago the wipers only worked on high but after I turned off the engine and restarted, they worked, then they didn't, then work again after another restart. Then I got a strong crank a couple of days later but no start. Left for the day and when I returned last night, and again this morning.
Has anyone every have an experience with a no start, strong crank which was attributed to the ignition switch? Pretty weird, I'd say.
I was reading an old post about a no start situation, especially in cold weather. I am going to try to find that thread but what the OP did was take out the GM from under the back seat and keep it inside his home and reinstall it whenever he went to start the car in the mornings. It was due to the cold weather but since he would keep it inside his home, the GM would not get the cold weather issues.. Eventually he replaced the GM with a used one and it didn't have anymore issues.
Not 100% sure if the GM could also be the cause of your issue with your wipers.
Obvious things to check is if your getting spark and fuel. No spark could indicate an EWS issue. Possible bad fuel pump? Ensure the injectors are firing.
I kind of doubt it would be an ignition switch issue if your starter is cranking cause then that means it is getting power when the key is turned.

I've not, but it's possible for an ignition switch to have good contact to the starter wire and a bad one to ignition. Wipers going haywire is a fault of the General Module. Try removing it before starting next time. I'm not aware of the GM and ECU talking to each other, but they are connected in indirect ways that just might matter. I can say that my non-EWS 4/93 530iT started, ran, and drove just fine with no GM at all.

Thanks bd92, The GM huh, that's interesting. It hasn't given me any problems since it started up a few days ago, in fact I just went outside to start it and try the wipers at all positions and everything worked. Very odd. That said, I'll keep an eye on the GM. The fuel pump was replaced a few years ago so I'm sort of ruling that out.
