I'm wondering what are the differences between the L6 and the 635CSi? Are the parts interchangable? Do the 635CSi performance chips work in an L6?

I bought an 87 L6 with only 78k on it this weekend. What a nice car it is. I've never seen so much leather in a car.

Cheers.

The L6 is just a regular 635CSi mechanically, but it has the leather dash and other interior bits like an M6. It also has luxo-goodies like the rear seat cooler/fridge thing and power everything. They are very nice cars! Congrats.

Congratulations, the L6 is beautifull. What did you pay for it?

The parts are the same.

Being in Cali- I bet he paid about or over 10 for it.

L6's are pretty - Some days in heavy traffic - I like the Auto's more and more.

When I bought my M3, I specifically looked for an auto. I must be getting old, or the traffic is getting worse.

I paid $6000 for it. It is totally clean and in excellent condition. It passed smog without a hitch. No rust & always garaged.

The only thing I need to do is have the AC checked since it doesn't blow very cold. I was told by my mechanic that it would run $250 - 300 to have it converted from R12 to R134 and charged and checked for leaks. Must do this soon to get the drink cooler cooling.

Otherwise it purrs like a very happy kitten.

You got a good buy. Its getting very hard to find a six with under 100k.

That's a great price for that car - easily worth 10 with a good dash (even if bad dash - still good price- Gotta love the drink cooler.

when running properly it'll cool a 12 oz coke from hot to nice chilly crinking temp in about 2 hours on the road.

Can you post a picture of the leather dash? I have yet to see one. I have had thoughts on doing the whole leather dash thing since mine is so cracked.

I'd like to see what kind of shape it's in too - good examples are getting harder and harder to find. esp since they recalled them-

Finally6 - you don't want to do that - the leather warps/shrinks/cracks very quickly in the sun. that's why they recalled them.

I go back and forth all ttime about whether i want to re-do my dash in Leather or just get the factory replacement when it goes.

Have you ever seen the dash covers? I have only seen them in the ads, but they look like a thin plastic cover with the same contour as the original dash. I wondered how one would look.

RFirst - those covers won't work on a leather dash.

Some folks have used them and love them -= some folkuse them and hate them. I had one Years ago on My old 76 280Z car that I didn't think looked bad.. But that was years ago and perhaps if I saw it today I'd think it looked like junk.

There is a place on the web (can't remember url sorry) that does vinyl dash restorations. you remove your dash. send it to them and they strip it and re-vinyl it for you. For evidently cheaper than a new replacement factory dash (they are like $700)

Here's some interior photos. Anyone know what kind of leather this is? I've heard two things - water buffalo or kangaroo.

Kangaroo I believe-

Condition the hell out of it - Never let it in the sun except when driving- get a sunshade.

Your's is in the early stages of what mine is - the center vent has begun to warp out from the leather shrinking behind it and pulling it out - don't bother buying new center vent - the leather will bow it anyway (ask me how I know)

There's some pulling off of the main instrument cluster starting - but it's just starting.

Overall it's in very good shape - a fair margin better than mine.

Awesome ride. Looks very posh. I've always wanted to get inside an old L car and see what appointments it has, but they're so rare that I don't think I've even seen one before.

I second this! It is easier to replace than an E36 dash, but you will never find a regular dash that is the color of your interior... cherish the one you have, condition it with the best stuff you can find, and get a dash protector. My 0.02...
By the way, that is an AMAZING price. good find! :buttrock
