I've misplaced my key fob. However, when I bought the car it came with an extra metal key. The key fits the door just fine, but to start the car normally the fob must be inserted.

How can I start the car with just the metal key?

The car does NOT have the Comfort Access System.

Additionally, is there a good option to get a replacement for a reasonable amount of money? vs $250 to $200,000.

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes the key is only for opening the door and on some models, the trunk AFAIK. I think the FOB is required to start the car, so I would purchase a new one. This is my favorite place to get parts, and they will need for you to scan in your license and registration before they will cut a key: https://www.thebmwminipartstore.com/oem-parts/bmw-keyless-entry-transmitter-66126986583 This is without the key, so if you want a second one complete: https://www.thebmwminipartstore.com/oem-parts/bmw-integrated-key-512043-51217139710

Thanks. I checked out that site. It stated the part didn't match my car. The site seems to think all 2010 328is have comfort access.

Anyway, I ended up just going with a local locksmith. Metal key and transmitter $285. Not too bad vs. the dealership, and it was done at my house.

Thank you for the welcome as well! I'm not exactly new, I was a very active participant a few years ago as M Roady.
