Hey guys I have a 07 e90 335i that thinks itÂ’s stuck in drive. This all happened after I changed the bridge seal under the mechatronic unit since I was getting a transmission malfunction. Changed the seal and of course it was in pieces then proceeded to button it up. Torqued down the mechatronic unit and installed the oil pan, put back in the mechatronic sleeve and plugged in the harness. Serviced the transmission oil then went to run the car to cycle the fluid throughout the system and the car wouldnÂ’t start. The dash said it was in drive but the gear selector was in park. Tried everything to fix it (unplugged and plugged back in the harness, used the neutral safety switch to force it into park, unplugged the battery and waited 30min, serviced more transmission fluid, cleared codes, reset the computer through the trip button and reset the transmission) but none of it worked. Looking to see if you guys may have a solution for this problem. Trying my best not to take it to bmw and get railed by their labor charges. Thanks.

When you say you used the Neutral safety switch to force it into park, are you talking about sliding the rod into the bore?
It sounds like your neutral safety switch is no longer functioning. You could try removing it and cleaning it with an aerosol electronics cleaner to remove the gray metallic shavings from it since it contains a magnets to determine the gear position.
Also make sure you close/lift the white tab before you reinstall the oil pan. Another thing to check is the connector for the neutral safety switch, itself. I believe it has a sliding lock after inserting it.

Check the shifter wiring for broken wires
