Hello, I recently acquired ISTA and scanned my car for faults, cleared them, drove the car for about an hour and re scanned this morning and this is what re appeared. No CEL is being thrown at the moment and car drives well aside from occasional long crank on first start of the day and possibly less torque or I am getting used to the power of this car. TPMS light has been on permanently since I picked up the car and aside from that everything seems to be in good running shape. What does this water pump code mean exactly? (002E85) water pump on its way out most likely? Then I'm also curious about the (002DEB) Code as well any help is greatly appreciated! :buttrockhttps://ibb.co/b1p0zvfhttps://ibb.co/bHKZCw7https://ibb.co/TTRCPfB

Photos should be attached to this post if I did it correctly.

Welcome to the Forum!

Low voltage can cause all kinds of odd issues, so I would work on that first. Also do you know how old the battery is? Anything below 12v means the battery is toast, and I would take a look at the alternator output too.

Does the speedometer work, for it normally takes the reading from the Right Rear ABS sensor and you have code 006056 listed.

Thank you!!

What can I do to troubleshoot this low voltage problem? anything in ISTA that can be used to confirm anything with the battery and or alternator outputl? I don't know for sure how old the battery is but I do have this receipt that came with the car stating new battery on 5/3/2017 and it is also listed on same receipt that low voltage codes were found.. https://ibb.co/71vV78D

Then I have another piece of paperwork from when the car was at a bmw dealership for recalls on the blower motor wiring, PCV Valve heater. A courtesy inspection was done and these were the passed tasks, one of which was "aged battery performance" Granted this was a year and 9 months ago as of today. https://ibb.co/jRhWF0Q

Speedometer does work but I do notice a slight deviation above 50mph of about 5mph give or take.

On some BMW's the battery lasts about 2-3 years, but typically in the E-9x chassis they will last 6 years. However in this case you really don't know as you just bought the car. The P.O. may have killed the batter a couple of times, you just don't know. Do you have a battery charger at home? I would see about charging the battery to max, let is sit overnight off the charger to get rid of the surface charge and check it in the morning. That should tell you what shape the battery is in.

You can use a multi-meter while the car is running to see what the alternator is putting out, with no load aka lights off, should be around 14 volts or more. If you have a large load like lights, ect on, then I would expect it to drop to 13.8 volts. Anything below 13.5 volts tends to raise a red flag for me. The voltage regulator in that car lives inside the DME, but the brushes are still inside the alternator, that's why you have to "register" any new battery to the car.

Since you have ISTA, there is nothing wrong with running the test plan for the alternator to see what it says.
