Hello and welcome!
If you want to keep it automatic, there are two transmissions you can use: the stock 5-speed, and the 4-speed that US models got. Switching to the latter will require a different trans computer, and possibly driveshaft and crossmember.
A better option in most regards is to swap it to a manual. Read this (https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2426262-E34-Tranny-Swap), and post here any remaining questions.

As Moroza says, N American cars got the GM 4 speed A4S310R. Rest of the world got the ZF 5 speed A5S310Z except for some E34s in S Africa or Japan. Maybe put the last 7 digits of your VIN in realoem.com and confirm you really do have the Jatco A5S300J together with the month of build and market? Any used trans you swap in will be getting on for 30 years old and could be no better than the one you have. So unless you have decided to go manual, perhaps advise what the problem is with your current trans?
