Someone told me you can't patch Z-rated tires. The patch won't hold. Is that true?

It's in the rear left tire, RE 040's, 255/35-18.

I have the Wheel/Tire Warranty, is it covered? I tried 3 dealers this AM, none of them have a Service Dept that is open on Saturdays...

Thanks in advance...

I have one of my HTRZ II patched and another one vulcanized (not sure if you're familiar with this one). They told me they had to use a special patch so it holds.

Thanks, man. On Monday, I'll call the dealer since I have the wheel/tire warranty, and let them see about patching it correctly, so it holds, (cuz if it doesn't, and it's covered on the warranty, and anything happens like the rim gets damaged in any way, I want the paperwork that says they fixed it, etc....)

Thanks for the info.

Hey Dave,
One of my Goodyear GS-D3's has a patch/plug in it. The guy at Goodyear said the patch job carried the same speed rating as the tire, so you should be able to get it patched without a problem..

However, when they mounted the (directional) tire back on the rim, they mounted it BACKWARDS! Geez....people these days....

Hopefully the dealer won't screw it up, and since it's under the wheel/tire warranty, I'd be back in for a free fix if they do, so hopefully they'll get it right the 1st time... we'll see...

I plugged z rated tires and ran them for 4 laps at limerock with ZERO problems. I understand this is recommended but sometimes we take our cars alittle too seriously.

I think a patch would be fine.

I've had a tire or 2 patched on a few occasions. I've driven on them at track events and numerous autocrosses. No problems as long as they do a quality job I imagine. YMMV :).

Dealer patched it for free, even washed the car while it was there... Thanks for the advice, guys! :buttrock

Good deal man... this nail in tire thing sounds like a disease. I still have to get mine fixed. I posted the same thing about a month ago.

Well, it happened Saturday AM, and didn't get fixed until this AM, but at least it's fixed....

Glad it worked out. Which dealer was this? I used to live out there in NJ and never found a dealer that was that helpful.

Surprise, surprise, it was DeSimone... usually a place I would never go to (based on how the sales staff has behaved in the past) but they are 3 miles from my house... it worked out well...
