I realize this is a long shot. Does anyone here own a US market 1995 540 factory 6-speed car with a production date prior to 1/1995, and willing to take pictures of their engine DME? Specifically the front of it showing all the version number stickers (the BMW ones, not the main Bosch sticker). Looking for a 6/94 - 12/94 build date as those cars are a '404' DME and pre-EWSII.

Here is an example of the two stickers with info I'm looking for:

I have a late production 94. I'll look if that will help. Also I believe auto and manual had the same dme

Yes that would help a lot! The pre-EWSII auto and manual m60 cars do have the same DME, however there are differences in the EPROM chip coding between manual and auto, market where the car was sold, etc.

I have it. But it's in my car and I'm not super likely to remember to pull it out and photograph it for you. If nothing else turns up you can hassle me by email occasionally.

Haha that's fair. If I don't have any luck I might pester you to take a look. Alternatively to actually removing the DME from the car, you can determine the software/hardware/version numbers that are printed on those stickers by reading the DME through the diagnostic port in the engine bay (if you have access to a INPA, DIS, etc. type system).
