Hey Everyone,
I'm new to this forum and in fact new to the BMW community. I have a '11 335xi automatic with over 200k kms that I just bought and it has started whistling when the engine comes down to idle or I shut the engine off. I have found a couple of different things that people say causes this... bad PCV in the valve cover or leaking crankshaft seals. The valve cover problem seems legit to me but I have never heard of leaking crank seals whistling before. Dripping oil sure, but not whistling like a tea kettle. My question is will the bad PCV cause enough pressure in the crankcase to make the crank seals whistle? Will replacing the valve cover with a new one repair this condition or will the crank seals need to be replaced as well? I appreciate any information you can give me.
