View Full Version : Inner tire tread is worn out(-camber). Has anyone swapped tires to the other side?

I am currently running KW variant 2 suspension and I am noticing that my inner tire tread is getting destroyed compared to the outer tread. This is happing on all four tires. To fix this camber issue in the rear I was planning on going with the AA rear camber correction kit. Is this the best option?

To fix the front camber I was planning on getting a nice set of camber plates but it seams that the main adjustment is for more negative camber. Is there a kit that can push me out to +.5-+1 camber so I can save my tires? My car never sees the track but I do tend to take advantage of the awesome handling on occasion.

The only problem right now is that I am on a budget. I want to try to squeeze a few more months out of my current tires. It seams like the best solution to do that would be to simply switch the actual tires from one side to the other. Has this been done? I am only planning on doing this ghetto fix to my front tires which are Nitto 245/25/19's. Thanks for any input you guys can give me on this issue.

Have a good weekend yall. :redspot

what is your front camber at right now? i don't think you want to go into the positives, maybe keep it at zero

Sean,

Due to the increased width of your wheels, that might explain why you are experiencing such severe tire wear. If you cannot fix it with a proper alignment, then you might need to get camber plates and rear camber arms to get it back within a more stock-range.

In the meantime you can certainly flip them side to side. It sounds like they are not worth keeping long anyways so screw it, buy yourself some time and swap them over.

it could be your control arms or tie rods going bad or maybe both, check them out.

Yup, I have swapped my tires to the other side. I did it with my stock 15s and my 18s too. Of course you need to take the tires out of the rims and get them mounted again on the other side but it works.

have your car realigned. and set your toe as close to zero as possible.

negative camber alone wont completely eat tires alone. what chews up insides of tires is negative camber and toe.

exactly, toe is a bigger killer of tires than camber. What are you alignment numbers?

check if ur tires are directional, cuz then u can only move front->back..not side to side

You can still swap them side to side if they're directional. As I've said before, you need to take the tires out of the rims and then get them mounted on the other side.

Directional tires can go on any corner...as long as they're rolling in the proper direction.

Yes, switching tires from side-to-side is not uncommon. I know people in the Z-Club that do it to get some more life out of them...

Toe can kill tires fast, but if the camber is extreme enough most of the force will be directed to one edge...

I'd swap them side-to-side. :)

where did you find 245/25/19 tires? And yes, rotating tires will increase their lifespan and its recommended every 10k I believe.
