So I recently had an ac system replacement cause a tech. said my high side was too high, which could mean a blockage. I replaced the Condenser, compressor and expansion valve. My worry is it could be the evap. which will be a biscuit to get to, but this worry may be wrong. I have a feeling some of the parts I ordered arent that great quality so it might lead to degraded performance. Compressor is Denso 471-1530, expansion valve is GDP 96007 and condenser is some cheapo thing I found on ebay. Does anyone have an experience with those parts? My AC works, but not to the level I wish. Im in PHX where summer is coming up. My next step is to check AC pressure to verify high side isnt reaching 250+ PSI. again.

250+ for high side is just fine if the outside temp is 85F.

thank you for the chart, I will put more freon into the system. I havent got a reading from when the ambient temp is around 110. I should also mention At a standstill the air temps start to rise, but not in my dads 328 it stays cold. My 335i temps start to cool off as it starts to move, but not as cold. Again, ill fill the system more! thank you

So you put the new parts in or did a shop as far as high psi really the most I recall seeing at the shop is around 180psi, I personally would have the ac charge at the shop with the machine

Before you dump more freon in, not working at idle may just be that your cooling fans aren't working correctly.

To get a rough estimate of the state of charge, and after car sits overnight, and with engine off, at say 90F, your static pressure, either high or low side, should be 99+ psi.

This should work:

What would cause the pressures to go that high from sitting overnight? But ill try that out.

A shop put in the parts and charged the system, I just purchased the stuff. I will check to see my low side pressure at 100 degrees to see if I dont have enough freon in my system.

Claudio, you need to research how AC systems work. That said, the chart shows R134A pressures with system not running, and the pressure will be the same on both the high and low side. If the system has approximately the right amount of R134A, the pressure (or vapor pressure - if you took chemistry in college) should be close to what you see in the chart.

If you see 0 psi, the system is empty. If you see 150 psi, say at 90F, the system is overcharged.

What kind of shop is this and what were there recommendations when they first looked at the car

Yeah, I was thinking you need to find a new shop. The outlet temp may rise by a couple degrees when stopped at idle, but it really shouldn't even be noticeable if everything is working properly.
