What happened with all the custom turbos ?

I know there where a few people working on custom setups:

EMC

moadster

///3oris

It seems like everyone working on these things have just dropped off the face of the earth. Does anyone have any new info or status of these things ? Are you guys gonna but together something you can sell ?

My car is currently undergoing some surgery and it will be underpowered so I'm looking to do this in about 6 months (if everything goes well).

If anyone has more info please chime in I'd like to know what is in the works :)

Pedro.
p.s. Feel free to pm me if you aren't allowed to give out prices, specifics,ETAs,etc.

You missed all the threads about boris's car?

Well I didn't really miss them I was more wondering on what his plans are, is it something he's going to sell ?
That was why I included boris, the other stuff was mainly for the other guys.

Boris, can you give us your overall impressions of the turbo kit? Any downfalls to the system(MPG? Lag?)? Any thing you would have done different? Any desire for more boost? Impresssions of power compared to stock (does 5th gear turbo pull as hard as 3rd gear NA?)

Just looking for a basic review of the turbo kit you had installed.

Thanks,
Joe

Overall, I love it.

Downfalls?? Yes, FI isn't exactly free... you know? :) Other than that, none. My milage has actually gone up significantly (about 20+%)... the lag is VERY minimal... people keep complaining about lag, but most don't even know what lag is. I'll post a video to show what turbo lag means.

The only thing I would have done different is install a Stage III clutch instead of Stage II... (boost is addictive).

Basically, the power and the feel of the car in part throttle is exactly as it is naturally aspirated, I no longer feel the drag on the engine like I did with the supercharger. The coastdown is exactly like stock, etc. (although the car is faster). The overall thing is very seamless and OE feeling--just the way I wanted it.

About the only thing I don't like about it is the fact that I still have stock cats. They're too restrictive. I'm conteplating going with larger high-flow cats to gain back some high-end torque.

Finally, the fitment/look/feel is as if I drove the car off the BMW showroom floor and it always had the Turbo on it. I'm now driving the car and thinking 'YES! THIS is the way it should have come. It was well worth the money for me!

Hope that helps...

Boris, thats exactly what I was looking for! I was also going to go with a spec stage II clutch, but now I'm consider stage III as some of the stage II guys (Neil with the TS M Coupe) are regretting not going with stage III.

Well, the Stage II clutch will hold the power... Neil had issues for a different reason (I don't want to post for him, so if he wants, he can fill everyone in).

I can't answer that as I haven't tried. But I know that Nick tried 4th gear in my car versus 3rd gear in another board members E36 M3 and my car beat him (I don't recall by how much, but it was significant).

Oh... I forgot to mention... the power delivery is VERY VERY smooth... like I said, everything is OE like.

Yes, I believe Neil stated that he didn't break in the clutch properly, but honestly, I dont know how long I'll be happy with 340-360whp :devillook

Boris,
Are we gonna see any videos of you car in the future?

Yup... are there any special requests? I was going to do regular acceleration runs, BOV and "Turbo Lag."

If there's something special you want to see/hear, let me know. I'll try to find some time, but I've been really busy lately.

LOL! I don't know whether that's good or bad.

Boris, Lets see a top speed run

I can't promise anything on that one... too illegal and dangerous, chances are it ain't gonna happen (especially with a video camera).

Anything else? :)

Boris

How much would a copy of your kit cost?
Vague question, i know, but could you throw us a ballpark figure?

Of the disappearing custom jobs, I'm most interested in Bill's (BadBimr) project.

Schneller: I don't want to advertise, but I've posted what it costs before. You can contact Nick also.

BoostMe: I got my SPEC From Jon Caldito... check out his site http://mperformance.com. He's a supporting vendor here and a BMW Tech... very knowlegable guy.

Matt: hope everything goes well! What's the ETA?

Does anything other than AA, Mechtech, Turbokits.com or APT mean custom? Some consider it custom if you buy your setup in individual parts. Others say that you have to actually fabricate stuff like welding piping together, making the end tanks, stuff like that.

Basically with all the setups stated(if they were available) but Boris's, you are in the dark about tuning. It is not often that a master of the OEM DME puts together a turbo kit. One that totally uses every element OEM has to offer as can be. Contact Nick for that.

Otherwise if standalone is cool with your wallet, then there you go. Just make sure you have a tuner that really knows your engine, turbo tuning & that standalone. Not always the easiest combo.

If I were to do it all over, I'd contact Nick. If I had a budget that is. If budget isn't a problem then there are numerous ways to go get your 600+hp fix. But actually then I would say George would be the best bet IMHO.

I guess if custom means you didn't buy a turbo "kit", then my "custom" turbo set up is up and running. Sad part is I'm getting used to the 60-1 turbo already... and I haven't even dynoed it yet :help

Boris I have a special request for the video. Could you set up a nice spedometer shot while under WOT, say 20-130mph?

I would call custom anything thats not in a pre fab kit form.

If anyone want a New in Box SPEC Stage II (for E34M5), let me know. I may go straight to a stage III to allow for some "future upgrades" :D
