I need a new K&N filter. Does anyone know what size I should get or know the part number? The filter I have is smaller than the one from my old ECIS intake.

How do you go about selecting one that will be very free flowing? I think the current filter is not very good and it is collapsing at 14 lbs. My car is 3.2 OBD1 Stage 2.5 AA Turbo.

Thanks in advance.
Mike

Ive used two that have fit my setup and should be good for most any E36 Vortech setup. I realize youre turbocharged, so its probablyl not ideal for you, but im posting it anyway ;) .. if youre going with a 3" intake setup and oe hfm, use RU-2820. measurements are 3" flange, 6.5" filter material length, and 5" diameter. Its a cylinder. .If youre going with the euro hfm, then use the RC-4630.. Same size, except its got the 3.5" mount flange, and is a cone with 5.5" base and 4.5" top, but same overall filter material size.

Anyone know what size the filter should be? I need a new one that will work for 400 + rwhp.

Why not check out the BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox?
I think it would suite your car well and give you minimum of at least 10 bhp!

I have a pair which gave me about 17 bhp and was VERY noticeable.

Here is a link to the BMC site to check to see if your car is in their M3 list.
The BMC CDA unit is quite long and I wonder if your turbo might have taken up the room that the BMC would've fitted in?

Its not the regular BMC Filter to look for but the BMC CDA cannister.

I hope its useful info. to you.

>>Its the RU-3130<<

As you can see, this has a 3.5" ID mount flange, indicating its a good mate for the Euro HFM. My RC-4630 also has the 3.5" mount flange.. Overall, I think Mine has slightly more surface area. Mine is 6.5" x 5.5" x 4.5". Multiplying we get 161 inches.. Multiplying your dimensions, we get 112 inches. My RC-4630 will fit the same location that the RU-3130 will fit.

I am going to measure the space I have available and order the biggest one that I think will fit. Thanks for the help Paul, i may end up ordering that one since it has more surface area. I need to see how much room the bimmerworld brake cooling kit is going to take up as well.

Since you guys are on the topic of air filters, does anyone know the K&N part number for the air filter that Dinan uses on their Powerdyne SCer kits?

if we can get away with filters this size, why do some companies use 9" long filters for intakes for N/A cars? I think my old ECIS filter was 8" long and about the same diameter dimensions. :help

Because they can.

Scho, does the longer filter work for our application? From looking at the area behind the bumper, it appears there is not much room.

I am pulling the bumper off tomorrow. I will post back. I am going to measure first from underneath and see.
