I replaced the DME in my 540i, as the old DME has burn marks on the inside of the casing due to multiple ignition coil drivers (?) burning/ failing. I replaced the DME with one that matched the Bosch part numbers but not the BMW part numbers, so it is coded to run as a 3.5L out of an e38, not a 4.4 in a e39. So the car does run but not well.
Im wondering how I would be able to program the new DME to my vehicle without paying hundreds to get it paired. I have INPA, but can not find a download for DIS.
Also, when I re program, will I have to pair the DME to the EWS? If so, how would I go about that?
Any help is great!

How dead is the old DME? Is it still alive enough to do a boot mode dump? If you can do that you can just flash the same file onto the new one and everything will work as it did before.

So, if you have INPA installed correctly, you should be able to "code" any module, via NCSDummy or NCSExpert.

First: get the DME coded and working on your car. Advice: save your car's original configuration, before attempting any coding.
Second: Forget about EWS, unless you have problems cranking or starting the car. In which case , check out the "no-crank, no-start" threads.

You can not code a DME with NCSExpert, the flash files are different. You need to use WINKFP (comes with the INPA package). If you need some help getting this working just ask.

hi, I do have WINKFP/ The INPA package installed. Do you have any idea on how to both code it to my car and make it talk to the EWS?

Follow these instructions https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2053462-Can-a-DME-ZUSB-from-one-model-be-used-in-another&p=27084879#post27084879, I don't know if you need to sync the EWS with the DME but if you do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPoaKPqLpgE.
