I have a 2007 e92 that recently started the nasty habit of mirrors not returning to their normal setting after putting the car in reverse. The passenger mirror is the worse - it will stay about halfway or all the way down after returning the car to drive. Note the driver's mirror has also started to stay all the way in or towards the right instead of moving back to the normal. I didn't think the driver's side moved at all when reversing... Mirrors have a mind of their own for some reason.:help Note: on my 740 if you leave the selector switch in the left mirror position they will not dip in reverse but does not seem to matter on this 335i.....

There's definitely something going on. The driver mirror should not ever move unless you adjust it with the switch. Probably need to replace the passenger side mirror. It is connected to the driver mirror switch via a LIN bus, and could be causing the problem with the driver mirror moving as well.

TxDarth,

As for the Driver side, is it possible it's actually only moving when you unlock the doors after the car is parked? (are you certain it lowers during reverse, or could it be at another time)
When unlocking, the mirrors can try to go to that user's preset position.
If the mirror assy is aged, sometimes the pins on the back of the mirror (connector) are not making ideal contact.
Cleaning them has helped me in the past, so the mirror doesn't try to go to 'home' and inadvertently go elsewhere.
There are lots of write ups on cleaning these pins. Sorry I don't have something handy or use the correct terminology.

After mine started misbehaving again (was OK for 6 months after cleaning), I actually coded out the mirror from recalling to the driver preset position, as well as the drop in reverse of passenger mirror.
Truth be told, I'll likely re-enable it, clean the connectors and replace if it misbehaves again. The drop-in-reverse is a nice feature.

Thanks for the info on pin cleaning - I will try that first....
