'07 335xi E90 auto. I just got a set of winter wheels assembled at Discount Tire. They installed Huf RDE048V21 sensors, which according to FCP are the correct sensors. Shortly after driving away from the store, I got "TPMS Inactive". I did the TPMS reset, drove around for a few miles, and it went back to Inactive. I have repeated this several times with the same results. The folks at Discount Tire are of course clueless. TPMS was working fine with the old wheels. I get the following codes in ISTA:
00604E RDC: RDC system
006054 RDC: Wheel electronics, front left
006055 RDC: Wheel electronics, front right
006056 RDC: Wheel electronics, rear left
006057 RDC: Wheel electronics, rear right

Has anyone been through this? Thanks!

Those are not the correct sensors. I would highly recommend purchasing the correct sensors from a BMW dealership.

Then why do FCP, ECS, and all other vendors specify these sensors for this vehicle? How did you determine they"re the wrong sensors?

Because they obviously don't work for the car. If they were the right ones, they would work.

The TPMS system worked before, and the only thing you changed is the sensors. Hmm, logic would tell me the sensors are the problem.

Sound, simple logic, except it relies on a couple of assumptions that I have yet to verify:
1. There is not actually an RDC problem. I will put the previous wheels back on, test TPMS function, and check for a reappearance of the 604E code.
2. The technician actually put in RDE048V21 sensors. Admittedly, the original post phrased this as a statement of fact rather than as a presumption. It's conceivable that rather than follow the work order exactly, he pulled RDE012V21 sensors out of habit. That will be my next check.

Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you. Swap back to the other wheels and see what happens.

considered just coding it to use the FTM and not TPMS for the winter wheels?

my RDC unit had green death in it's conector, no idea how as it didn't appear to have ever been wet, and rather than deal with it I just coded FTM.
it works. and gets rid of all the TPMS sensor stuff in the wheels.

If I'd anticipated problems, I would have. Now that I've paid for sensors, I'll run through the test process and see where I end up.

If you paid for them, and they don't work, why not go back and get a refund?!?

That post? Yeah I saw that. I'm not sure what your point is. If I bought something, and it didn't work, I would take it back and get a refund. I guess we're cut from a different cloth. Are you going to swap the old wheels back on to confirm 100% they don't work? Maybe I'm missing something. Just trying to help.

As stated before, yes I am.

You'll be gratified to know that when I put the old wheels back on, TPMS went back to working perfectly, and no code reappeared. So it does appear there's a problem with the sensors. Back to the shop...

Either have shop fix problem, or just ignore the problem and check you tire pressure by hand. Note, if shop refuses to help, just stop your credit card payment.

After 14 years of BMW dealer experience, and BMW master certification, I have learned a few things. Not to mention, I've had my share of cars come in with inactive TPMS, and come to find out a tire shop has installed the supposed "correct" TPMS sensors. I've been down that road.

Well, what do you know. Discount Tire did NOT install the Huf RDE048V21 sensors they charged me for. They installed this crap:

661440
I had them replace those with a set of cheap MobileTron sensors I bought off Amazon.
I try not to be dramatic, but this behavior was unethical (cause they lied) and incompetent (cause they failed) and cost me a bunch of time and effort.

So what part number did you use from Amazon? My tpms light is on and I dont have a BMW tool to reset or shut them off or do I need one?

Sometimes you get what you pay for. The dealership would have cost a whole lot more, but at least it would have been the right parts, done right, the first time around. You don't always pay us for what we do, but you're also paying us for what we know.

Yup. Thus no point in a lot of drama. Tires and alignment are the things you can't DIY, so there are always compromises to be made there between risk and price.
