View Full Version : Are there any HEATED M-Sport steering wheels that would fit a PRE-FACELIFT car?

From what I understand, pre facelift cars used single stage airbags, whereas the facelift moved to dual stage. I wanted to try and put an m steering wheel in my preface lift, but was a bit unsure about the airbag situation. Any ideas?

Edit...Did a little more searching and it seems that there were no single stage m sport steering wheels that had a heat function :( If anyone knows otherwise please let me know thx!

Any idea how much and the name of the shop? I actually am in Texas about 1/3 of the year anyways, so that might work. Do you know if it causes any check engine lights or anything of that sort? Thanks!

I dont see why a check light would come on if you added heat to an existing steering wheel.

And I was in your boat about a year ago, my heated wheel went out and couldn't find a heated Sport, so I ordered a new comfort from Germany.

Hope the custom wheel works out!

Did they make any heated sport wheels period? I've never seen a heating button on a sport wheel before. The regular wheels had the heating brains built into the button pod, which used a sensor in the heating element to regulate the heating speed and temperature. So, whatever shop you decide to use may need to use an OE heating element if you want it to work with the factory buttons.

The only heated sport steering wheel that I can recall from the e38/e39/e53 era was the heated 3 spoke steering wheel for the FACELIFT e53 X5. So that would make it a dual stage airbag set-up...and it wasn't available until later production. The first few months of facelift production...it wasn't offered. A quick google search would probably pull up when it first appeared on the e53 X5.

Well - I believe all e38’s before 2001 had heated 4 spoke wheels - if you purchased the cold weather package when you bought the car new. Depending on the year - you may/may not have a 2 stage bag in the wheel ...from my limited recall from memory
