Hey first post here, just got the car about 2 months ago. 2010 335D. Love the car but it's already scaring me. I turned my heat on this morning to clear my windshield and seconds later I had smoke coming from under the dash. Quickly pulled the car over and shut it off. I had read about the recall for the blower motor wiring and it looks like that has been done to this car already. Nothing under the dash or under the hood looks toasted that I can see. I'm now getting the electrical systems malfunction popping up, the passenger restraint system malfunction, and the wipers won't shut off when the key is in, and obviously no start as well. My question is, where the hell do I start lol. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I'd contact your dealer and let yhem know the recall does not appear to be resolved.

There's another recall for the positive cable in the junction box. It's recall campaign 19V-472: Power Supply System. Check your vin on nhtsa recall site.

Sadly it is saying zero unrepaired recalls on the NHTSA website. I am still waiting to hear back from the closest dealer to see what they can do. This sucks

What did the smoke smell like?

Def smelled electrical. The fact the wipers won't shut off and I have several other odd faults I'm sure something fried :(

Just FYI, it is totally possible for it to be related to the recalls that were previously performed. But it is also totally possible for it to be totally unrelated! In which case, it's on your dime to repair.

Dealer "thinks" it's the engine harness. Not sure how this would be related to the wipers or passenger restraint system. They want 3k to replace something the "think" is the issue. Fuck

From the BMW dealership.

The technician did inspect the JBE and Fuse Box. He took the JBE apart looking for any blown or burnt components. He inspected the blower motor wiring harness. The cover you mention is common for it to appear as it has water damage, they pull these things off pretty much every day doing blower motor wiring recalls. I would say 99% of them have the same markings you are concerned with and are not water damaged. The wipers work continuously due to the PT CAN being shorted and the DSC not communicating. It is a failsafe feature. The tech isolated the EGS wiring out of the PT CAN and all of the other PT Can module communicated and the wipers stopped but the vehicle still will not start because the park/neutral signal from the EGS is missing as that portion of the bus has been removed as part of diagnosis.

Does this sound like it would be the engine harness? I still don't get why I would have had so much smoke coming from the glove box yet nothing is wrong with the jbe or fuse box. Hate to drop the cash for the harness and be in the same exact spot.

Sounds like they know exactly what they're talking about to me. You're lucky to get that kind of an explanation from the advisor.

I have the car home now and will be pulling the harness hopefully next week. The dealer thinks that something shorted out or melted near the dpf. Does anyone on here know if I can remove the harness with the engine still in the car?

I'm not sure. But I hope you know what you're getting into by doing it yourself.

Not sure if anyone cares but I think I finally figured this out. I got the harness pulled and found the damage. There was a braided hose that comes off the DPF to the "soot level sensor" and it was pointed directly at the harness. Does anyone know if whats coming out of that hose would be really hot? Sure seems like it? I'm deleting the DPF and just waiting for my new harness to come so hopefully all will be good once its back together!663181663182

Just got everything buttoned up but now im getting different faults from before and still no start. Does the car need to be "reprogrammed" for the new harness? I'm new to bmw's but it seems they need to be coded for everything lol.
