Hello,

I want to recondition my throttle bodies, I suspect one of them is faulty due to it's age.
I found this tutorial but unfortunately it's belong to 1990 model and mine is 2001.
http://www.e38.org/e32/throttles/BMWThrottles.htm
Please check the attached photos.
How to disassemble them?

Thank's!

The ones from the E32 750 M70 and E31 850 M70 are made by Bosch and can be refurbished as per for example your above link, here one more link http://www.mwrench.com/Whitepapers/DKMotorcleanup.pdf more pics and technical data on my website below.
But yours from the E38 are made by Siemens and are internally completely different, have not yet seen a cpl. refurbish of the Siemens DK

Unlike the early M70 and M30 throttle bodies, the M62TUB and M73 are not designed to come apart - and they are usually very reliable (unlike the previous versions with their DC motors and carbon tracks). The most you can do on the M73 versions is to lubricate the butterfly shaft - although the M62TUB versions do come apart to some extent. The action of them are tightly controlled and you will get error codes if they start to fail.

I wouldn't attempt it.

Dragon850 on here did mine a few months ago. Very happy with the result.

The newer ones are NOT as easy to disassemble as the earlier models.

I rebuilt my older ones years ago, the newer style wasn't designed to be serviced.

M73 throttles are made to be non serviceable, I can only partially recondition them by re setting the encoder brushes and cleaning the encoder. The gear mechanism and lower part is sealed.
If you dont know what you are doing and it's your only pair I would not mess with them, trust me...
M73 throttles are more reliable than M70 units but still can fail.

So Dragon850, the only thing service wise that can be done to the M73 throttle bodies other than cleaning the exposed throttle plate/body assembly and lubricating is resetting the encoder brushes and cleaning the encoder? What is involved with that and what would you charge to do that?
Would you happen to know what resistance values are across which ports to test and see if they are 'acceptable'?

Mine runs fine but throws an 'Engine Fault', or something to that effect, on the dash but I never get any codes.

I unsealed the bottom portion 😅
