So… after all the forum horror stories, I finally got around to securing the oil pump nut on my M3 today. It’s a 97, 156k, tracked occasionally.
The nut was on there really tight. I have mixed emotions. It’s nice to have the peace of mind that it won’t go anywhere now. But the job was a lot of work for something that, in hindsight, would have been a non-issue.

Its only a non-issue, until its an issue....

Especially if you track your car.
If you have the right tools it should be a easy job. What did you use to support the engine ?

Harbor freight engine brace. I was replacing the front control arms, tie rods, engine mounts, etc. Figured I’d tackle it while I was in there.

It’s worth it. Now you have a fresh oil pan gasket and peace of mind to rev that engine on the track without fear!

I've used that before, to do engine mounts. I think someone here gave the idea to raise the engine with a jack then adjust the engine support because it's not easy to use.

It seems heat is the issue with the nut, expands the nut when you beat on the engine.

A lot of work for peace of mind that you just mentioned. Its well worth it to not have to worry about it.
