Hello everyone , recently i have bought an automatic 04 545i ,car runs amazing , comparing to my old e46 2.0d , i have stock exhaust , is pretty nice but i want it louder , and my main question is , can i make it sound like modern ones ? I mean i know is aspirated not turbo , but i want that pop or bang or fart when shifting gears , i dont even know how to call it , a friend told me that requires some soft modifications ,maybe you guys can help me thanks !

Get a muffler delete. I got one done for my 530xi six months ago and it sounded good. It gave subtle pops when you decelerate and tap the throttle and the gas gets burnt up in the hot exhaust pipe. You don’t really need mods to get pops, it’s just the rear muffler does a pretty damn good job on silencing the pops. I recently got a resonator delete plus Y pipe and the pops sound like gunshots. I can expect it would sound better with a V8! I recommend muffler delete first and see how you like it. And even if you don’t you’d only be short around $150 or so since it’s pretty cheap!

I put on a cat back exhaust on my old 545, and then I did a dual exhaust conversion. Some don't like muffler deletes as they can be pretty loud.

you can hold the exhaust valve open, that will make it a bit louder, they spring shut so you would have to clamp it open or weld it open at pivot. or do the vacuum mod like in other posts. This will make idle louder but at wot will be same ole car. I have been toying around the idea of a muffler delete myself or delete the second muffler and just use the exhaust flap to close a straight pipe when idling. at wot it is too quiet for me like you said.

I put a Billy Boat exhaust on my 545I. It is plenty loud.
