I have a 2009 320i E90 N46B manual trans 155,000km
I get this metallic tapping/rattle when cold and only when accelerating in gear. I get no sound at all in neutral. Rattle speed increases with revs.

It has had this noise for ages but I think it really began when I took it in for the first service since I bought it at 70,000km and the mechanic replaced the oil with a slightly different spec. I think the previous service sticker said 5w40 and the mechanic put in Castrol 5w30.. I can’t quite remember now.. something like that. I do my own service now and use Penrite Enviro+ 5w40.

I do know the clutch is worn. Wife doesn’t seem to give a shit about riding the clutch. Clutch pedal engages with on the very slightest press. 1st gear take off is juddery sometimes but I’ve put this down to a dirty flywheel.

In 2-3 gear at 2-3000k rev I occasionally feel a very slight dip in power/acceleration

On cold start the car has a metallic clap as it initially turns over.

Any ideas?
