Hello new to the forums. Just recently been given a 2009 bmw 328i that’s been sitting for 2-3 years in a hot humid garage. Never driven for that period of time. Family member doesn’t know anything about cars. I have some basic knowledge but learning every day.

Did an oil change using mobil 1 full synthetic 0w-40 but is 5w-30 safe to use? for future reference.
Tried to recharge the H8 size AGM battery (850 CCA, 92 amp hours) but could no longer hold a charge. Did a cheap battery replacement change (size H6 non AGM, interstate from Costco) Been driving a week. Everything seems ok but wondering if its necessary to register the battery. I’ve heard so many things from different people from one end saying it’s a scam to the other end saying your electronics/alternator will be screwed and everything in between, but still no clear answer)
The front and rear windshield moulding trim is all cracked. Will be replaced soon with part ordered but is this cosmetic only? Should I be worried about possible water leak, water collection etc
The rear tires need replacing badly. The rear tires are 255 40 17 and front are 225 45 17. I want to replace the rear with 225 45 17 and square up the vehicle. Can this be done? I can get a steal of deal if I’m able to.
Since its been sitting so long. Anything else you'd recommend to do? Thanks.

Sorry if some of these questions seem dumb. I’m trying to fix it up and maintain it as cheaply as possible Thanks again. If this post is in the wrong subforum. Mods can change or someone can message me.

1) If you're on a 7500 mile change interval, 5W30 is ok. Look for BMW LL-01 on the bottle next time.
2) You need to change the battery type from AGM to lead-acid. The alternator is probably over-charging the battery and it won't last as long as it might.
3) Cosmetic only.
4) If the tires you choose are designed to fit the rear wheels (probably 7 1/2 x 17), no problem.
5) Flush brake fluid. Maybe flush coolant.

how many miles are on the car? could also probably use a couple drain and fills with the Trans fluid since it should be done regardless.

Get some fresh gas into the car if it has been sitting. Crack the windows during the day, let it sit and air out.
