Sure, I pass 'em at the track all the time.

Your heart can't help the fact that the E36 is not a good drag racer.

Although I've heard the rare "316TDS" is pretty quick off the mark, for a "1.6 TurboDiesel" ;)

I prefer to describe my trusty turbo diesel's performance the same way Rolls Royce does for their cars: "Adequate".

Have you ever had anyone come up to you and ask how come you have a 316tds when all of the other ones are 318s? ;)

And has anyone noticed that it doesn't sound or perform much like a diesel at all? :)

I get questions about the car constantly. It has no exterior indications that it is anything but a 316tds, and I have also removed several of the interior model distinctions. It was definitely the first 316tds in America, and probably still the only one, unless some unoriginal bastard followed suit and "imported" his own.

Heh. The car has had several different aftermarket exhausts on it, all of which sputtered away in some manner. Who could hear a diesel clatter over the bellow of a tuned stainless catback? :D

Would someone mind enlightening me as to the specs of the Bambislayer? The link to its page is down and my curuiosity is piqued.

Probably the only 316tds in the world, being as they only 'officially' make a 318tds and a 325tds :)

Heheheh :D

There's a 'proper' 318tds round my way, slammed, with M3 bodykit, mirrors and alloys on, with a twin pipe stainless exhaust..

It's pretty deceiving, it's only until you get close and you hear the engine that you realise what it really is :)

My friend has a 2001 S4.....

I posted a kill story a while back regarding our race on the freeway. Anyways we were dead even until 145 when we shut it down. I thought that was cool until he told me that the he found out that the previous owner had a GIAC chip installed. So I hung with a chipped S4? I was impressed to say the least.....

Where were you hitting 145 in this part of Cali? I wish I could tinker with those speeds but my Bro & Sis are both CHP in Gilroy

S4? A 3700 lb, fragile, understeering, under tired, glorified volkswagon?

j/k

Awesome cars but a chipped S4 is a far superior drag racer to a naturally aspirated M3, even with the 'regular' bolt-ons.

depends on how agressive the chip is:

my friends first chip, we stayed fairly even, but he was slightly quicker.

current chip - the S4 dusted me - but he is running 18lbs of boost, giving the car an expected life of about next month:biglaughb

with my new setup - I don't know...

But of course, you are 'cheating' with an OBD I 3.2L. . . :D

A buddy of mine with the X chip and exhaust stayed even with me until about 110, when I slowly started to walk him. I agree with the rest of the comments, the torque of a chipped S4 make it a far better drag racer than our cars.
