E60 Warning Light - 2008 528i

looked online and in the manual for the attached warning light ... it comes on when starting once in a while and shuts the car down dead - recycle the key in/out and try again, it seems to go away but ...

...what is it and what causes it to come on ...

I think it happens when you put the car in gear while the driver's door is open. The car actually refuses to move ......
