View Full Version : Message Chime Glitch
I am just seeing if anyone else has had this happen. My 93's warning chime for things like "Brake Linings" "Coolant Level" etc did this weird thing twice in 24 hours. Usually on a normal chime it goes "biiiiing" . Well what happend randomly with no new message on the dash was it would do 3 partial bings, so more like "bii bii bii". I feel like something got knocked loose and is causing this or there is some other more serious issue. Anyone had this happen before?

Black ice warning maybe?
manual page .....
Outside temperature warning
When the displayed temperature sinks to approx. +37F/+3C, a signal sounds and a warning lamp lights up. There is an increased risk of black ice. Black ice can also form at temperatures above +37F/+3C. You should therefore drive carefully on bridges and shaded roads, for example, otherwise there is an increased risk of an accident.

Its been well below 37 quite a few times the last 2 months and would do the 1 bing like usual. This morning was warm relatively speaking so no ice warning.

Does it still ding like normal for other warnings, in addition to the abnormal behavior?
Shogun is right about the low temperature warning, but in all of my cars it dings just like it would for any other warning. Nothing different about it.

All the messages are normal dings including the outside temperature.

2 years ago I had a problem with the gong. Came into the garage and the gong was constantly dinging. car was not locked, ignition key not in. Took a drive, ding, ding, ding always. Stopped, key out of ignition, kept dinging.
Tried the easy things = swopping: cluster changed, gong changed, no improvement, kept dinging, even when I removed the CCM it continued.
So then I looked into the wiring diagrams and studied them. There are 2 plugs going into the gong, one of them is connected to the OBC, removed that, gong stopped. So I changed the OBC, connected the gong again, problem solved = OBC broken.
On the German forum I discussed it, they also had similar experience, capacitors had to be changed in the OBC.

I will try swapping the one off my 95 see if that fixes it.
I think I figured it out. I think there was a setting I turned on the OBC accedentily the rings at the top of the our. When in the time menu, you hit the S/R button and a little icon that looks like a volume icon pops up in the corner.

Ahhh, forgot about that. I accidentally turn mine on sometimes and it throws me off too. Glad you figured it out.
