Snow melt from your shoes?
Hole in the floor, so when you hit a puddle your carpet gets wet?

I took all the carpet out because there was a puddle of water under it. The stream you see is from it just sitting in my driveway

Check the 2 drains under the windshield where the wiper motor is located, if these drains are clogged, rain/water comes thru the covering left and right # 15 under the windshield, rises and then it enters the interior thru the hole where the IHKA is mounted
#15 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=HD23-USA-01-1989-E34-BMW-535i&diagId=51_0900

You can test it without removing anything, pour some water thru the plastic grill = covering left and right #15 under the windshield, then water should come out inside the fender. If not, blocked drain holes. The holes are 2, each one in the side where the fenders are. To have access to the holes you have to remove the wheel and then probably the plastic insert # 2 inside the fender http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=HD23-USA-01-1989-E34-BMW-535i&diagId=41_0217
